Panettone is a bit cheaper in the US....why?

PANETTONE IS CHEAPER AS AN IMPORT PRODUCT THAN AS A DOMESTIC ONE????

Panettone for 6.99 without a card or 2.99 with....either way it is much cheaper than the 21-30 Reais that you would pay in Brasil for the same product.  It is a domestic product as well...there is no excuse for Carrefour, Extra, Pao de Acucar or any other store here in Sao Paulo...it is rather disturbing to think that my family gets a better deal on this than I do...in country!  Even if you take the currency at $6.99 and multiply it by 2.85 which is generous but not far off from the actual currency rate..it comes to $19 Reais which is a few dollars under the 21-22 Real price in Sao Paulo.  Now for the $2.99 amount....that would come to $8.50 roughly...can you understand why Brazilians come to the US?  Yeah for Panettone...no...they come to the US because there is no real comparison of any product much less what is considered a domestic product for Brasil.  It should be the reverse.  It should cost 10-15 dollars as an imported product in the US and 2-5 Reais here in Brasil...as THAT will never occur due to Econ 101  rules of supply and demand,..the price only gets more expensive because ultimately there is a knucklehead that is willing to pay the 30 Reais for a "nice" panettone.  Dude, it is BREAD....why does BREAD cost $30 REAIS or to bring this back to USD for our American readers...would you ever spend $10.50 for ANY bread for any reason without thinking "...hey that is a bit pricey for BREAD???"

PURPOSE OF THIS WEBSITE-PROPOSITO DESTE SITE

Haven't you ever gone to a foreign country and wondered why things are not exactly like they are in your cozy corner of the USA? I must admit, when I went to Brazil (Brasil) for the first time, the Brazilian Real (BRL) was the same currency rate as the US Dollar(USD) so I failed to understand why it was that things were so expensive here in Brazil. I bought all kinds of things while here on my first visit and now that I have established a life here in Brazil for the past 3 years, I thought it might be time to rant and rave...not at the people. I love the Brazilian people. They are very warm and friendly. Many would be more than willing to help you learn the language and help you get on your feet here. However, there are businesses which are not as nice or nearly as friendly and are more than willing to charge an arm and a leg of YOUR UNBORN CHILD...to get what they want (not need) to live their lives. Oh but this might seem unfair and they don't have a way to defend themselves against what I am posting here...I really am not interested nor do I care for their defense. The fact of the matter is, for unknown reasons (some know), they charge MUCH more for the items here in Brazil than in the US and while I get that the Real (BRL) has become somewhat devalued against the US Dollar, there is more to this than just a conversion of currency. Items here in Brazil are 3-4 TIMES more expensive than in the US and that is a problem...not just for me, but for Brazilians everywhere. They have adjusted and are now READY to be ripped off. It is culturally acceptable...to the extent that some Brazilians got it in their heads that it is a question of STATUS...my house cost more than yours, my car is much more valuable and while Americans have the tendency to compete with the Joneses as well to some extent....some Brazilians are far more intent on proving to you that because they have 3 kids and you have 2...what is YOUR problem...don't make enough to have 3 kids? Yes, this is a mentality of some people...it is absurd. See, schooling here is not free. Thes best schools are private and nobody WANTS to go to public schooling. Public schools in Brazil are like prisons at times and their quality is disturbingly lacking and the directors know it. They can do little about it, so they deal with the status quo much like Brazilians DEAL with the prices as they are. SOOO is this just a chance to rip unmercifully on Brazilians and show them what is wrong with their country?? NO, I live here...and don't need the backlash...but it IS to show that they are paying more and to be more judgmental about buying products that they cannot afford or that are JUST TOO EXPENSIVE...don't save up for this...recognize that it is cheaper to FLY TO MIAMI to buy it than to purchase it here in Sao Paulo or wherever you are...I will purposefully show items in the US and the SAME ITEMS IN BRAZIL to show Brazilians that you CAN change things here...we as a people living in Sao Paulo and across Brazil need to NOT PURCHASE ITEMS that are ridiculously priced. I want to show Brazilians JUST HOW expensive that fridge is at Ponto Frio or Casas Bahia or Magazina Luisa or wherever you find that product and recognize that it is far overpriced and there is MORE TO THIS than just tariffs and conversions occurring here...it may land me in hot water...but ultimately it should get people thinking about WHY they are paying 3 times as much as they are paying in the US or any other country!!!
